This is me!

Caitlin Schneider

Testing the new blog and introducing myself. My name is Caitlin Schneider and I am a Sophomore Letters Constitutional Studies Major. The coolest thing about my major is how small it is. I love when I walk into a class and know almost everyone there. I would like to eventually to litigation and I am leaning towards international litigation.

I graduated high school from a tiny school (59 in my graduating class) in Kansas, but I lived most of my life in Washington State. I chose OU because I was not a fan of KU. Their campus culture didn't feel like home and it was really hilly. Also, I lived way to close (only about 45 minutes away) and wanted more of an adventure.

This break I toured a law school which was really scary but so much fun. I don't feel ready yet to be getting ready for grad school, but here I am. I tour Arizona State and it was wonderful. I loved Arizona as a whole so that also helped. I probably ate my weight in oranges. I had no idea they had so many citrus trees and how big the fruit got. It was amazing.

My Photo-- I am the one on the left.
I have two pets-- two dogs-- Tar and Roxy. I'll post a picture of them. Tar is a sweet, gentle giant but he is so needy for attention, it can be rough. I love him but he is very big and will climb into my lap and then I cant breathe. Roxy is sassy as her name suggests. She has small dog syndrome very bad and believes she is the alpha of the house.
My photo with Tar

My photo with Roxy during my blonde phase
I am not blonde anymore. It was a phase during my senior year of high school after my senior pictures. Purple shampoo and touch ups are expensive when you are on your own.

The best class I took last semester was Debating Constitutional Controversies with Dr. Porwancher. It changed the way I talk and write for the better. I also learned so much about strange controversies most people don't know about. It prepared me for my future goals tremendously.

  1. The blog links are working, Caitlin: when I clicked to come here to the Introduction, I arrived, and now that the commenting has started, you should be getting comments here this weekend too. It is exciting to have a Constitutional Studies major in class! That is a major that OU has created since I came here, and it sounds like a great opportunity for people to study issues of real importance to us today while also learning about our history too. Something that could be useful in this class is the whole concept of DHARMA, which is kind of like law, but also truth and duty, all rolled into one word. In some ways, both epics are kind of like ongoing crises in dharma, when people either do what is right (dharma) or what is not-right (a-dharma). You can learn more here if you are curious: Dharma
And SO TRUE about oranges in Arizona: we lived there when I was little, and we had a lemon tree in our backyard and an orange tree. It was amazing: we could just go pick our own fruit!
Plus your Tar and Roxy pictures are fun to see! Maybe you will add them to the class pet collection. Here's the "Pet Padlet" -- Padlet Tech Tips, which is a fun way to do an extra credit Tech Tip thing. :-)

  2. Hey Caitlin,

Nice to meet you (in a sense)!

That sounds like an interesting and useful major for law school, and a lot of my (also sophomore, maybe you know them) Letters major friends have only good things to say about the program.

Constitutional Law is a fascinating area, and I love studying it myself even though I've never taken a class in it (or majored in it, as a matter of fact.)

    See you around the course!

  3. Hi Caitlyn!
I think your major sounds really interesting, what made you choose international litigation as the field you would be pursuing in the future? I really respect you moving to Oklahoma from Kansas, I came to OU from out of state too, and it can definitely be a difficult transition because you're leaving your support network of friends and family behind.

  5. Hey Caitlin! It's exciting to hear you're wanting to go to law school! My wife is a 2L here at OU Law. She grew up in very rural towns. Her kindergarten class had 4 students in it, including her. Those same 3 girls and her were college roommates in undergrad, is that unbelievable or what? At the end of high school she moved to Oklahoma City and went to OSSM though so her high school graduating class wasn't that small. She loves the law and is learning a lot there but she tells me it's quite different than undergrad.

  6. Hey Caitlin,
It’s really nice to meet you. That’s cool that you want to go into international litigation. I wish I could know most people in my major, but I’m a psychology major and our department is huge. I actually live in Edmond which is 45 minutes from Norman, so it’s really funny that you lived about the same distance from KU. Also, your dogs are absolutely adorable.

  7. Hey Caitlin,

First off, I would die for Roxy. With that being said, I think your major is super interesting! Though not for me, I think it's definitely a major we need more students to major in nationwide. I also think its dope that your classes are so small. All of my business classes have upwards to 200 people in them, so I got to say I am a little jealous. I'm glad you like OU, and boo KU!

  8. Hey Caitlin, I enjoyed reading your introduction post! I think its interesting you went to a high school with only 59 people! I graduated with somewhere around 800+ students in my graduating class. I am sure there is ups and downs to both situations but it would be cool to trade places for like a week. If I could pick any another school to go to it would most likely be in Arizona. I am from Texas and I am so over all this cold weather. I miss the heat and the warmth of the sun. Good luck in Grad School, I am sure you'll kill it.

  9. Hi Caitlin!
I've never heard of your major but it seems like a really good foundation for what you hope to do. I actually lived in Washington too and I loved it! I have family in Kansas so I actually toured the KU campus and I have to agree that OU is definitely better. Your dogs sound are so cute and I love how you gave a little description of each!

  10. Hey Caitlin, I think its super cool thats your major. I'm double majoring in letters and spanish and I personally love the letters major. The classes are so interesting. I also want to say that your dogs are super cute. I think the name "Tar" is one of the best names I've ever heard wow. Good luck with law school. Hope everything works out.

  11. Hi Caitlin,

It is great to meet you! That is so cool that you decided to come to OU, because you wanted more of an adventure. I am not sure if I could ever muster the courage to move to a different state, but I would love to some day! I have never actually heard of your major, but I enjoyed reading you talk about it and your goals. I wish you the best in all your future endeavors! Have a great semester.

  12. Hi Caitlin,
I'm a letters major as well! :) But I am also doing a dual degree with international studies. I think that it is awesome that you want to do international litigation. I had originally planned to go to law school, but didn't feel like it was right. I also wanted to do international studies if I went. Tar and Roxy are super cute! I hope you have a fantastic semester!

  13. Hi Caitlin,

i am amazed you graduating class only has 59 people! My graduating class was the smallest with 496 people! Your dogs are so cute! Ugh I can really tell you adore both of your dogs so much! I bet you miss them a bunch. I agree with the expense of hair keeping my sister has platinum highlights in her hair it and takes a village to upkeep it.

  14. Hi Caitlin,
I have always been so fascinated with Letters as a major and have only recently found out what it is. Congrats on been doon and applying to grad schools I am in the same boat but I am going to Michigan for my school. I am from southern California so I understand the great oranges. Actually the town I am from has an orange in the city crest!

  15. Hi Caitlin,
I know the feeling of not feeling old enough to be looking at options for after college all too well.... but unfortunately for me it is coming way too soon. I'm a senior and I'm graduating in a month and that is super crazy for me because I feel like I was JUST in high school. My dog, Bailey, is a gentle giant and needy for attention as well, but honestly, I think it's better that way.

  16. Caitlin,
I know that feeling of a school being way to close to home. In fact, my "way to close" school was about 10 minutes away. Everyone's goal was basically to get out and not stay at mom's house anymore (and have that adventure). Arizona is a lovely state and if you do end up going out there, take a trip down to Tucson. I might be biased but it's nicer than Tempe for sure :)

  17. Hi Caitlin,

I have met so many people with our name! Last semester I had a class of 19 people with 4 girls named Kaitlyn/Caitlin/Katelyn. Almost always spelled a different way! My first semester at OU I could not figure out what Letters was. I saw it on the list of possible majors and was so confused! Your dogs are so cute! It was lovely to meet you!

  18. Hi hi Caitlin,,

I wanted to start by stating that I love your name. I like names that start with a hard K sound, although I have never been able to fully identify why.

Like you, I also have a very small major, aerospace engineering. In the beginning, there were far too many people to get familiar with everyone, but over the years that problem has steadily diminished.

It is interesting that you eat lots of oranges. I regularly eat oranges as well. We should eat oranges together.

    Orange.

  19. Hi Caitlin! My major isn't too small (psychology) but then again I have a lot of the same faces in my classes and compared to the OU student body it seems small (and is probably smaller than some other majors). I found making friends in classes versus social events, being involved, etc. are kind of harder because typically you are only in class 2/3 times a week and a lot of people want to leave right after class. Seeing familiar faces definitely helps because then we can bond over shared experiences. I think law school is great but I know exactly what you mean about graduate school. I think your plan sounds solid! Good luck with everything!

  20. Hey howdy Caitlin! yours is the first blog from Laura's Epics of India class that I have been able to check out. Shout out to my fellow Letters majro! Let me tell you, it will only get better. I am glad that you already are appreciative of the small close knit community that we havea dn encourage you to actively pursue that in your next 2 years. Join Eta Sigma Phi, keep popping in to your professors office hours to chat, and keep spending a lot of time in the Carnegie basement. You'll be glad that you did. Cheers!
